Folklore Group: Sri Warisan Som Said Performing Arts Ltd. Sri Warisan is a performing Arts Company led by renowned cultural Medallion recipient, Madam Som Said. Sri Warisan has a professional performers section and activities include performing arts courses, workshops, talks and seminars. Sri Warisan provides services for performing arts needs, such as sales and rental of costumes, props and musical instruments. Sri Warisan‘s performers are trained in multi disciplined art forms (dance, music, vocal, theatre, multi-media). Fusing rich traditional styles with contemporary techniques harmoniously is the unique style of Sri Warisan. Since it’s inception in 1997, Sri Warisan has consistently been producing great repertoires in the multi disciplinary art forms. Mdm Som Said (founder/Artistic Director) has more than 40 years of successful experience in the arts majoring in dance. Sri Warisan has 10 full time staffs, 40 performing artists and more than 200 student members committed to developing professionalism in the performing arts reaching out to children, youths and adults. Sri Warisan local involvements include events such as WOMAD, Singapore Arts Festival, Music Carousel Festival by Singapore Symphony Orchestra, NAC-Shell Arts Reach programme and NAC-Arts Education Programmes. Collaboration works include projects with SIFAS, Dramaplus Arts, Asia In Theatre Research, Chinese Theatre Circle Limited, Temple of Fine Arts, Arts Theatre of Singapore Limited, Dance Ensemble Singapore, Apsaras Arts Singapore and Metta Welfare Association. Sri Warisan recently choreographed a special performance as a tribute to Singapore’s Prime Minister Mr. Lee Hsien Loong. The event was organized by Malay/Muslim organizations. Since 1997, Sri Warisan has produced more than 30 productions supported by National Arts Council (NAC). Sri Warisan was involved in the mega production, Lagenda Tun Fatimah, supported by National Arts Council Cultural Medallion Grant. This production marks Mdm Som Said’s 40 years of involvement in the arts and pays tribute to Mdm Som’s friends who have been contributing to the art scene for the past 40 years. Sri Warisan has participated in more than 30 international events and festivals in Brunei, Belgium, Canada, China, Holland, India, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Philippines and Thailand.
